Two PhD fellowships in German and European Studies - University of Haifa


From October 2018 on the Haifa Center of German and European Studies (HCGES) offers a doctoral program in the field of German and European Studies. We strongly encourage candidates to apply also for a joint doctorate together with one of the DAAD sister centers or another European University. The PhD Programm offers three tracks: The normal track, the direct course to a doctorate track, preliminary research track.
Admission Requirements:
Normal Track
1. A final grade of 85 and above in Master studies from a recognized institute of higher education in Israel or abroad. The doctorate committee will be authorized to admit students with lower grades in exceptional cases.
2. Two letters of recommendation by two academics familiar with the candidate
3. A brief (500 words) statement regarding the research topic and methodology
4. Letter of consent by a senior faculty member (senior lecture and above) to supervise the candidate.
5. A decision by the doctorate committee to accept the candidate

Direct Course to a doctorate track
1. A final grade of 96 and above in Bachelor studies from a recognized institute of higher education in Israel or abroad. The doctorate committee will be authorized to admit students with lower grades in exceptional cases.
2. Two letters of recommendation by two academics familiar with the candidate
3. A brief (1000 words) statement regarding the research topic and methodology
4. Letter of consent by a senior faculty member (senior lecture and above) to supervise the candidate.
5. A decision by the doctorate committee to accept the candidate

Preliminary research track
1. A final grade of 85 and above in Master studies from a recognized institute of higher education in Israel or abroad. The doctorate committee will be authorized to admit students with lower grades in exceptional cases.
2. Two letters of recommendation by two academics familiar with the candidate
3. A brief (500 words) statement regarding the research topic and methodology
4. Letter of consent by a senior faculty member (senior lecture and above) to supervise the candidate.
5. A decision by the doctorate committee to accept the candidate
